Sodium Benzoate is a salt of benzoic acid which also naturally occurs in numerous fruits including apple, plums, cranberries, ripe cloves, & cinnamon. It can be formulated by neutralizing benzoic acid with sodium hydroxide or by adding C7H6O2 into a hot concentrated solution of sodium carbonate. This compound has a chemical formula NaC7H5O2 and the molecular mass of 144.10 g/mol. Sodium Benzoate is used as a preservative, a food additive with E number E211, as a treatment for urea cycle disorder, and as a fuel in whistle mix for fireworks.
